Job summary

Wickes is seeking a Senior Financial Controls Manager to partner with the Finance Leadership Team and own the Key Financial Controls framework. You will drive automation ahead of ERP transitions, challenge legacy processes, and ensure audit readiness across a fast-moving retail business.

You will lead high-risk testing, develop remediation plans, and maintain robust RACMs. The role emphasizes strategic partnering, risk identification, and continuous improvement while protecting commercial

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or similar).
• 5+ years PQE in finance, audit, risk, or internal controls.
• Senior Manager experience in a large FTSE 250/retail environment (bonus).
• Experience with ERP implementations and automation.
• Ability to lead remediation and root-cause analysis.
• Production and maintenance of RACMs and risk/control documentation.

Responsibilities

• Lead the strategic review and rationalisation of the Key Financial Controls framework.
• Automate controls ahead of ERP system implementation.
• Direct annual testing strategy and deep-dive into near-misses and root causes.
• Oversee high-risk testing and audit-ready workpapers.
• Engage Directors and FLT with high-trust, high-challenge relationships.
• Design pragmatic remediation plans with business control owners.
• Transform Corestream into an active workflow engine and monitor metrics.
• Oversee the Controls Analyst and ensure timely, accurate reporting.
