We are seeking an experienced Senior Finance Manager to take ownership of the finance function within a growing business with turnover in excess of £5 million.
Reporting to the Head of Business Management and Director, the Senior Finance Manager will oversee the Finance Manager and ensure the business has accurate financial reporting, strong financial controls, effective cash management and clear visibility over performance.
This is a hands‑on role requiring someone who can strengthen existing processes, improve financial reporting and provide meaningful commercial insight to senior management.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce accurate monthly management accounts including P&L, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow.
- Provide clear reporting on revenue, profitability, cash position, receivables, payables and key KPIs.
- Monitor occupancy, voids and their financial impact.
- Provide commentary on performance, risks, variances and areas requiring action.
- Lead the annual budgeting and ongoing forecasting process.
Finance Team Oversight
- Manage and oversee the Finance Manager and wider finance activities.
- Ensure key finance deadlines are met, including invoicing, statements, reconciliations, credit control and reporting.
- Review the accuracy and quality of financial information produced by the team.
- Establish clear responsibilities, processes and accountability within Finance.
Cash Flow & Financial Control
- Maintain oversight of cash flow and working capital.
- Monitor aged receivables and payables and ensure appropriate action is taken.
- Ensure Xero and supporting financial records remain accurate and fully reconciled.
- Maintain appropriate financial controls and month‑end procedures.
- Identify and resolve financial discrepancies and historic reconciliation issues.
Revenue Assurance & Business Support
- Ensure all business income is accurately invoiced, recorded and collected.
- Establish controls to identify missed, incorrect or unbilled income and minimise revenue leakage.
- Oversee customer billing and key account reconciliations.
- Ensure operational information supporting invoicing and financial reporting is complete and accurate.
- Work closely with internal teams to improve the flow and accuracy of financial information.
- Ensure changes affecting revenue, costs or contractual payments are captured accurately and on a timely basis.
Business Improvement & Commercial Support
- Review and improve existing finance processes, systems and controls.
- Develop appropriate financial procedures and reporting standards.
- Provide financial insight to support management decision-making.
- Support profitability analysis, business planning and future growth.
- Liaise with external accountants and support year‑end and statutory requirements.
- Support the business with ISO preparation and implementation from a finance perspective.
- Lead or support other ad hoc finance and business improvement projects as required.
- Qualified accountant – ACA, ACCA or CIMA; newly qualified accountants are welcome to apply.
- Minimum 5 years’ relevant finance experience, including experience managing or overseeing a finance function and team.
- Strong management accounting, budgeting, forecasting and financial control experience.
- Strong Excel skills and experience using accounting systems.
- Commercially minded, with strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Confident and assertive communicator, comfortable challenging existing practices and addressing issues directly where required.
- Proven ability to manage performance, set clear expectations and hold team members accountable for deadlines and standards.
- Able to remain professional and objective when dealing with resistance, competing priorities or difficult conversations.
- Confident communicating with senior management and non-finance teams.
- Experience using Xero.
- Experience within property or a growing SME environment.
- Experience improving or restructuring finance processes and controls.
- Experience supporting a business through periods of growth or operational change.
