Job summary

Yolk Recruitment is looking for an experienced Senior Buyer to lead strategic procurement in Cardiff, spanning sourcing, tendering, contract negotiation and ongoing supplier management. The role suits professionals from financial services or other regulated sectors who value governance and robust processes.

You will manage complex indirect procurement, develop category strategies, and partner with senior stakeholders to deliver value, risk management, and measurable savings.

Qualifications

• Experience in regulated environments such as financial services or public sector.
• Proven track record in indirect procurement across sourcing, tendering and contracting.
• Strong commercial and contract negotiation capabilities with measurable savings.
• Experience leading high-value or business-critical procurement projects.
• Excellent stakeholder management and analytical skills.
• Supplier relationship and performance management experience.
• MCIPS (in progress) or equivalent professional certification.

Responsibilities

• Leading end-to-end procurement activity including sourcing, tendering, supplier evaluation and contract negotiation.
• Developing category strategies focused on value, risk and business objectives.
• Managing complex indirect spend and procurement projects.
• Partnering with senior stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver commercially focused solutions.
• Driving value through cost management, supplier rationalisation and risk mitigation.
• Supporting supplier performance and third-party relationship management.
• Providing procurement guidance across the organisation.
• Supporting governance, policy and continuous improvement.
• Leading procurement workstreams within wider strategic change programmes.
• Embedding best practice in supplier risk management and ESG.

Job description

I'm recruiting for an experienced Senior Buyer to join a well-established organisation in Cardiff, taking a key role in delivering strategic procurement activity across the business.

This would be an excellent opportunity for someone currently working within financial services or another highly regulated environment, including candidates from the public sector, who understands the importance of strong procurement governance, risk management and robust commercial processes.

You’ll manage complex indirect procurement activity from initial sourcing and competitive tendering through to negotiation, contracting and ongoing supplier management.

What you’ll be doing

• Leading end-to-end procurement activity including sourcing, tendering, supplier evaluation and contract negotiation
• Developing category strategies focused on value, risk and business objectives
• Managing complex indirect spend and business-critical procurement projects
• Partnering with senior stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver commercially focused solutions
• Driving value through cost management, supplier rationalisation and risk mitigation
• Supporting supplier performance and third-party relationship management
• Providing procurement advice and guidance across the organisation
• Supporting procurement governance, policy and continuous improvement

What I’m looking for

• Strong experience within financial services, the public sector or another regulated environment
• Proven experience managing complex indirect procurement activity
• Strong commercial and contract negotiation skills
• Experience leading competitive tender exercises and delivering measurable savings
• Experience supporting high-value or business-critical projects
• Excellent stakeholder management skills with the confidence to challenge and influence
• Strong analytical and commercial capability
• Experience in supplier relationship and performance management
• MCIPS, or currently working towards completion
