Overall Purpose
The Senior Finance Business Manager plays a pivotal role in leading the evolution of finance business partnering within the charity to ensure key financial objectives are achieved to support the organisation's strategy and change agenda. The post holder will deliver professional and timely financial support, be customer-focused, and work closely with core activities, while challenging and holding budget managers accountable. Additionally, they will foster a culture of strong financial stewardship, emphasizing economy, efficiency, and effectiveness across the charity's global operations.
This high-profile role requires building collaborative partnerships and maintaining strong relationships with the Executive, Senior Managers, and their teams across the organisation and its subsidiaries.
Main duties and responsibilities:
- Lead the Finance Business Partners to provide high-quality financial information, advice, training, and support, ensuring managers can meet operational and strategic objectives.
- Develop and evolve the charity's business partner model to align with strategic changes, ensuring it remains fit for purpose, efficient, and effective.
- Build networks to promote financial stewardship among non-finance managers through support, education, and coaching.
- Influence senior managers to share knowledge and information for data-driven financial planning and forecasting.
- Manage, train, and develop a team of finance business partners and assistants, setting SMART objectives and conducting performance reviews.
- Identify areas for improvement or training needs for the team and ensure these are addressed.
- Support development of financial reporting to ensure information flows from operational reports to organisation-wide forecasts, including overseas subsidiaries, with clear risk articulation and mitigation.
- Utilize data analytics, dashboards, and financial modelling to provide management accounting data, reports, and advice within required timeframes.
- Act as finance change manager for strategic projects impacting financial systems/processes, leading benefits realization.
- Enhance monthly management accounts review and reporting, focusing on the balance sheet.
- Provide advice on capital purchases as a trusted adviser and participate in the Capital Strategy and Planning Group.
- Oversee budgeting and forecasting processes, including annual budgets and re-forecasts, ensuring alignment with financial systems.
- Contribute to statutory accounts and regulatory reports, liaising with external auditors to meet audit deadlines.
- Develop policies, processes, and procedures to ensure strong financial controls and continuous improvement.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties as required.
Location
The role offers a hybrid working pattern, combining on-site and remote work, with occasional travel to other locations as needed.
Essential qualifications and experience:
- Current fully qualified member of a recognised professional accounting institute (ICAEW, ICAS, CIMA, ACCA) with extensive post-qualification experience.
- Experience in financial and management accounting for a medium to large international organisation, including multi-currency group reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Proven leadership skills, managing teams, workloads, and performance reviews, with a focus on coaching and development.
- Experience in developing finance business partnering within an organisation.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including financial modelling) and Word.
- Ability to analyse complex issues and tailor support accordingly.
- Proven track record in financial risk management and evaluating business cases and proposals.
- Excellent communication skills, adaptable to diverse audiences.
- Ability to build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships.
- Constructively challenge and influence at all levels.
Desirable qualifications and experience:
- Knowledge of charity accounting and taxation regulations (e.g., SORP 2015, VAT partial exemption).
- Knowledge of international accounting and taxation requirements.
- UK full valid driving license.
- Valid passport for overseas travel.
