Job summary

Cotswold Archaeology in Kemble seeks a Senior Project Officer to lead archaeological fieldwork and site management for high‑profile projects. You will ensure delivery to time, budget, and quality, oversee staff performance, and maintain high standards of recording and reporting.

Qualifications

• Experience supervising large fieldwork projects and desk-based work.
• Ability to produce reports to publication standard.
• Ability to lead, train, and direct staff and manage performance.
• Strong administrative record-keeping and reporting skills.
• Full manual driving licence and willingness to drive company vehicles.
• Proficiency in Word, Excel and databases.
• Membership/eligibility for ACIFA at least to ACIFA level, or able to join.
• First Aid competence.

Responsibilities

• Lead delivery of projects on time, within budget, and to quality and H&S standards.
• Develop and coach staff, promoting continuous improvement.
• Assure quality of archaeological understanding and site records.
• Author reports to publication standard.
• Monitor progress and report to Project Managers on budget, progress and health/safety issues.
• Maintain timesheets and plant allocation records.
• Oversee deployment of vehicles, plant and equipment and keep records.
• Ensure compliance with CA Health and Safety policies; prepare risk assessments.
• Assist in pre-project planning, schemes of investigation, trench plans, and landowner contact.
• Represent the Project Manager when required.
• Promote CA’s work to the public through displays, publications and media.
• Carry out any other duties related to the role.
