Job summary

Cotswold Archaeology is seeking a Project Supervisor for Andover to lead fieldwork projects, ensuring timely delivery and compliance with quality and safety standards. You will supervise archaeologists and trainees, prepare accurate site records and reports, and liaise with clients and local authorities.

Role requires experience in supervising field projects, strong reporting skills, and a valid driving licence. The team offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Sound knowledge of archaeological practice and Britain’s archaeology.
• Experience supervising small to medium fieldwork projects (evaluations/excavations).
• Ability to author typescript fieldwork reports efficiently and accurately.
• Able to organise, motivate, train, appraise and direct staff.
• Administrative ability to keep accurate records and submit reports.
• Full manual driving licence.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Competent in carrying out first aid.

Responsibilities

• Deliver own fieldwork projects to time, budget, quality and health and safety requirements.
• Assist in developing Archaeologists and Trainees through regular performance reviews and coaching.
• Ensure quality of archaeological understanding and site records; oversee archives to required standards.
• Author fieldwork reports efficiently and accurately.
• Provide regular progress reports to Project Manager/Senior Project Officer on progress and issues.
• Maintain accurate administration records including timesheets and allocation sheets.
• Assist in supervising larger fieldwork projects deputising for the PO/SPO when needed.
• Ensure fieldwork aligns with CA Health and Safety policy and prepare Risk Assessments.
• Undertake additional duties appropriate to the role.
