Job summary

Torbay Council is seeking a Senior Family Help Practitioner to manage a caseload of Child in Need cases and provide targeted family support within the CIN team. You will work directly with children and families, coordinating multi‑agency input and contributing to care planning to reduce statutory intervention where possible.

The role emphasizes safeguarding, effective communication, and collaborative working with schools and health colleagues. Hybrid/home working options are available.

Qualifications

• Experience in health, social care or safeguarding environments with children and families.
• Strong assessment, intervention and relationship-based practice skills.
• Ability to support and challenge families to achieve positive change.
• Excellent recording and report-writing abilities.
• Commitment to safeguarding and improving outcomes for vulnerable children.

Responsibilities

• Manage Child in Need cases and deliver focused family support interventions.
• Build positive relationships with children, young people and families.
• Undertake direct work that captures children’s wishes and feelings.
• Coordinate and lead Child in Need Reviews and multi-agency meetings.
• Assess needs, identify risks, contribute to care planning.
• Collaborate with schools, health colleagues and partner agencies to improve outcomes.
