Job summary

York Street Recruitment is seeking a Head of FM & Soft Landings for a major Science & Innovation Campus in Cambridgeshire. The role is 12-month fixed-term and focuses on leading Soft Landings across a mixed-use estate including laboratories, offices, and campus facilities.

Reporting to senior Estates & Facilities leadership, you will ensure operational requirements, lifecycle considerations and occupier experience are embedded from design through handover.

Qualifications

• Experience leading Soft Landings/operational readiness on new-build or refurbishment projects.
• Background in life sciences, higher education, science parks or large mixed-use estates.
• Strong commercial acumen with leases, service contracts, and budgeting.

Responsibilities

• Act as operational lead and trusted adviser across the estate lifecycle.
• Embed occupier experience, lifecycle considerations and commercial objectives in design, construction, commissioning and handover.
• Challenge design/construction teams to secure operational excellence and value.
• Collaborate with developers, consultants, operators and senior leadership.

Head of FM & Soft Landings – Science & Innovation Campus (Cambridgeshire)

12 Month - FTC

Our client is a leading consultancy pracitce who are working with of the world's leading science and innovation campuses, currently undergoing significant expansion.

We're seeking an experienced Facilities Management and Soft Landings professional to act as operational lead and trusted advisor across a growing mixed-use estate - spanning laboratories, offices, amenity, retail, leisure and shared campus infrastructure.

Reporting into the client's senior Estates & Facilities leadership, you'll work alongside the campus expansion development team to ensure operational requirements, lifecycle considerations, commercial objectives and occupier experience are embedded throughout design, construction, commissioning and handover.

What you'll bring:

• A strong track record leading Soft Landings / operational readiness on new-build or refurbishment projects, ideally within life sciences, research, higher education, campus or science park settings
• Deep understanding of commissioning, mobilisation, training, handover and post-occupancy optimisation
• Confidence challenging design and construction teams to secure operational excellence and whole-life value
• Strong commercial acumen - experience negotiating management/operating agreements, leases and service contracts, plus a solid grasp of service charge structures and budgeting
• Excellent stakeholder management skills across developers, consultants, operators and senior leadership

Likely background:

Senior FM Manager, Head of Estates/Facilities, Operational Readiness Manager, Soft Landings Manager, Estate Operations Manager or Campus FM Lead, with experience in life sciences, higher education, science parks or large mixed-use/institutional estates.

Location:

Cambridgeshire, with some flexibility for offsite working.
