Job summary

ALTEN is seeking a Senior Facilities Engineer to join our Hertfordshire team, supporting activities in pharmaceutical manufacturing and research. You will supervise maintenance activities, lead engineering teams, and manage critical HVAC/building infrastructure in a regulated environment.

The role requires 5+ years of experience in a maintenance leadership role within pharma or GMP environments, with on-site responsibilities and potential security clearance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or equivalent
• Experience in pharmaceutical, GMP-regulated life sciences environments
• Experience in supervisory or leadership roles

Responsibilities

• Supervise engineering teams and contractors for planned, reactive, and corrective maintenance
• Act as primary technical contact for HVAC and critical building infrastructure
• Review maintenance procedures and permits; ensure regulatory compliance
• Inspect equipment, identify improvements and implement corrective actions
• Review BMS/HVAC controls to optimise plant performance and energy use
• Support fault-finding, root cause investigations and incident resolution
• Coordinate maintenance shutdowns and small projects with stakeholders
• Prepare reports on equipment performance, maintenance activities and resource use
