Job summary

Platinum Recruitment Consultancy seeks an Estimator for Alton, Hampshire, to prepare detailed cost estimates for high-precision components and assemblies. The role emphasizes reading engineering drawings with GD&T, cost modelling across materials, labour and subcontractors, and end-to-end bid management.

Ideal candidates bring a mechanical engineering background and at least 5 years in purchasing or estimating within engineering/manufacturing, with strong Excel and negotiation skills.

Qualifications

• Mechanical engineering background with purchasing/estimating experience in engineering/manufacturing.
• At least 5 years' purchasing experience within engineering/manufacturing.
• Confident reading engineering drawings with GD&T; understand materials and costing.

Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate, commercially competitive estimates for manufacture of high-precision components.
• Review drawings and specifications; cover materials, labour, equipment and subcontractor costs.
• Manage end-to-end bid process and supplier pricing / lead times.
• Collaborate with customers, suppliers and internal teams to optimize bids.
• Forecast spend and production capacity; identify cost-saving opportunities.
