Platinum Recruitment Consultancy is seeking an experienced Estimator for our Alton, Hampshire client. The role demands strong commercial awareness with a background in estimating, purchasing or manufacturing, focusing on costed projects for high-precision components across specialist industries.

You will review drawings, prepare detailed cost estimates, manage bids, and work with customers, suppliers and internal teams to secure competitive pricing and on-time delivery.

• Review technical engineering drawings and specifications.
• Prepare detailed project cost estimates covering materials, labour, equipment and subcontractor costs.
• Manage the end-to-end bid process, including proposals and bid management.
• Work closely with customers, suppliers, vendors and internal teams.
• Obtain competitive pricing and lead times from suppliers.
• Support the sourcing and manufacture of components for projects.
• Produce spend and production capacity forecasts.
• Identify opportunities to improve cost effectiveness.
• Plan and manage your workload to meet strict deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

• Review technical engineering drawings and specifications
• Prepare detailed project cost estimates covering materials, labour, equipment and subcontractor costs
• Manage the end-to-end bid process, including proposals and bid management

What we're looking for:

• Mechanical engineering experience, ideally supported by an indentured apprenticeship or equivalent
• At least 5 years' purchasing experience within engineering or manufacturing
• Confident reading engineering drawings with a good understanding of GD&T
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes, raw materials and costing methodologies
• Strong negotiation and commercial skills
• Excellent numerical, analytical and Excel skills
• Highly organised with meticulous attention to detail
• Confident communicator with a professional and positive approach
• A proactive problem solver who can work independently and as part of a team
• Comfortable working to deadlines in a demanding environment
