Job summary

Kier is seeking a Senior Estimator to lead tendering for rail, aviation, nuclear and defence projects with remote work and occasional office visits. The role emphasizes accurate estimating and risk assessment to secure work in line with the Business Plan.

The ideal candidate has a construction/civil engineering degree or HNC with a professional qualification, and experience with major civil contractors; strong Excel and RIB Candy knowledge are preferred.

Qualifications

• Degree or HNC in construction or civil engineering, plus a professional qualification.
• Experience as an Estimator with a major civil engineering contractor or as a Senior Estimator with Tier 2 contractors.
• Solid understanding of railway sector work types, possession working, and site constraints.
• Strong commercial awareness, knowledge of main Forms of Contract, and excellent communication skills.
• Proficient in Excel and either experienced with RIB Candy estimating or eager to learn.

Responsibilities

• Lead the estimating process from client documents to handover to delivery teams.
• Ensure accuracy and completeness of estimates, present findings at bid team meetings and reviews.
• Prepare structured items and quantities using measurement methods and pricing under various contracts.
• Collaborate with procurement to develop supply chain strategies and appraise quotations.
• Identify risks, supervise junior team members, and support their development.

Your Responsibilities

As a Senior Estimator (Rail), you will play a crucial role in our estimating team, helping us secure new work through competitive tenders and negotiated contracts. Your focus will be on maximizing our commercial position while aligning with our Business Plan objectives. Here’s what your day-to-day will look like:

• Lead the estimating process from the receipt of client documents to handover to delivery teams.
• Ensure accuracy and completeness of estimates, presenting findings at bid team meetings and final reviews.
• Prepare structured items and quantities using methods of measurement, pricing work under various contract forms.
• Collaborate with the procurement team to develop supply chain strategies, appraising quotations and selecting suitable partners.
• Identify key risks, supervise junior team members, and support their professional development.
