Job summary

Catering in Aylesbury is seeking a Senior Estimator for civil engineering and earthworks. You will manage detailed estimates and tender submissions for major packages on a large-scale rail infrastructure project, ensuring rates reflect site constraints and construction methods.

Ideal candidates have strong senior estimating experience in civils, earthworks pricing, and tender-management capabilities, with rail project exposure highly advantageous.

Qualifications

• Strong Senior Estimator experience within civil engineering.
• Proven experience pricing earthworks and heavy civils packages.
• Experience working for a civil engineering contractor or specialist civils subcontractor.
• Strong understanding of plant-intensive earthworks and construction methodologies.
• Experience pricing major infrastructure projects, ideally within rail, highways or large-scale civils.
• Strong commercial awareness and ability to produce detailed first-principles estimates.
• Excellent communication and tender-management skills; rail projects advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed estimates and tender submissions for major civil engineering packages.
• Price bulk earthworks, excavation, cut & fill, drainage, groundworks and associated civils.
• Undertake detailed take-offs and build up rates from first principles.
• Assess labour, plant, materials and subcontractor requirements.
• Manage subcontractor and supplier enquiries and analyse quotations.
• Identify commercial risks and opportunities throughout the tender process.
• Review drawings, specifications, programmes and tender documentation.
• Work closely with commercial, engineering, operations and project teams.
• Develop value-engineering solutions and alternative construction methodologies.
• Support tender adjudications and handovers to delivery teams.
• Ensure estimates accurately reflect site constraints, programme requirements and construction methodology.

Senior Estimator – Civil Engineering / Earthworks

Location: Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire
Salary: Up to £100,000 + Package
Working Pattern: 5 days per week on site
Sector: Civil Engineering / Rail Infrastructure / Earthworks

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Estimator to join a civil engineering contractor delivering major earthworks and civils packages on a large-scale rail infrastructure project in Aylesbury.

This is a key pre-construction role responsible for producing accurate and competitive estimates across complex heavy civils, bulk earthworks and associated infrastructure packages.
