Job summary

Brownlee Cale Ltd is seeking an experienced Estimator/Senior Estimator to join its civil engineering team. The role focuses on pre-construction tendering, producing accurate estimates from drawings and specifications across local authority frameworks, with a collaborative, team-focused environment.

You will price from first principles, review documents, and liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive submissions.

Qualifications

• 5-7 years experience within civil engineering or construction estimating
• HNC/HND/Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or similar
• Ability to price from first principles
• Experience pricing from drawings and specifications at tender stage
• Experience within local authority projects (highways, drainage, bridges, etc.)
• Collaborative mindset and willingness to mentor others

Responsibilities

• Preparing detailed cost estimates from drawings and specifications
• Reviewing tender documents and identifying key risks and opportunities
• Liaising with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations
• Collaborating with internal teams to ensure accurate and commercially viable submissions
• Supporting bid submissions and contributing to tender strategy
• Working closely with senior management to align estimates with business objectives
• Managing multiple tenders and deadlines effectively

You ll play a key role in the pre-construction phase, producing accurate and competitive estimates from drawings and specifications across a range of civil engineering projects, particularly within local authority frameworks.

• Experience within local authority projects (highways, drainage, bridges, etc.)
• Ability to hit the ground running and work with minimal supervision
• Strong attention to detail and commercial awareness
• A collaborative mindset and willingness to support and mentor others
