Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc is seeking an environmental professional to support the Bramford Twinstead Network Optimisation Project (BTNO) and wider Power Transmission & Distribution work. You will help implement sustainability plans, manage environmental risks, and engage project teams to promote best practice across site activities.

You will have knowledge of ISO 14001, be able to support consent processes, monitor compliance, and upskill the workforce on environmental responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Knowledge and practical experience of developing, implementing and improving EMS's certified to ISO 14001 accreditation.
• Internal environmental auditor qualification.
• Knowledge of the Construction Industry – rail/construction/engineering operating environment.
• Understanding of the Section 61 application/consent process.
• Practical experience and sound knowledge of environmental statutory requirements, including environmental legislation, ecology mitigation, environmental licensing and consent applications and regulation.
• Full UK driver's licence and flexibility to travel.
• Professional Membership level of a relevant professional body (IEMA/CIEEM/CIW).

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the implementation and monitoring of the sustainability plan and report progress.
• Manage project environmental and social risks, developing local environmental management and risk assessments.
• Lead environment and sustainability initiatives, promoting sustainable behaviours and maintaining project documentation.
• Provide support and advice on environmental management, compliance and mitigations.
• Assist in applications for consent, licences or permits and ensure compliance responsibilities.
• Upskill project teams and contractors on environment responsibilities through plans and toolbox talks.
• Accurately record and report environment data, best practices and lessons learnt.

About The Role

To provide support and guidance to our project team on the 30km Bramford Twinstead Network Optimisation Project (BTNO) for National Grid, which is a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project. This will be on all aspects of environmental management, meeting legal and company standards and helping deliver a culture of continual improvement within Balfour Beatty and on the project.

About The Role

To provide support and guidance to our project team on the 30km Bramford Twinstead Network Optimisation Project (BTNO) for National Grid, which is a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project. This will be on all aspects of environmental management, meeting legal and company standards and helping deliver a culture of continual improvement within Balfour Beatty and on the project. You will be supporting site-set up, construction controls and mitigations, sustainability opportunities and engagement throughout the construction. You will be part of a large Environment and Ecology team supporting the project.

What you'll be doing

• Contribute to the implementation of our sustainability plan driving actions, monitoring progress andreporting.
• Manage project environmental and social risks and opportunities, supporting project teams to develop and maintain local environmental management and sustainability plans and risk assessments.
• Actively lead environment and sustainability, engaging project teams to encourage and promote sustainable behaviours and innovations, deliver positive outcomes and maintain project documentation.
• Provide support and advice on environmental management, compliance and project specific mitigation measures including pollution control and ecology protection.
• Support applications for consent, licences or permits as required and ensure project environmental compliance responsibilities are maintained.
• Upskill the project team and contractors on environment and sustainability responsibilities and controls via work package plans, toolbox talks and on-site learning and development.
• Accurately record and report environment and sustainability data, best practices and lessons learnt.

Who we're looking for
