Job summary

Uniper is expanding its environmental team to manage permitting, compliance, and carbon regulation across UK energy projects. You will coordinate permit applications, supervise consultants, and ensure robust regulatory outputs.

The role requires deep knowledge of the UK ETS, strong project management, and the ability to engage regulators and stakeholders to support project delivery and carbon reporting across assets.

Qualifications

Your responsibilities

• Lead the coordination and delivery of environmental permits and consents for UK energy generation projects, including permit applications and variations, working closely with project teams, consultants and regulators.


• Manage external consultants and technical specialists undertaking environmental assessments required to support permit applications, ensuring outputs are technically robust, aligned with regulatory expectations and delivered to project timelines.


• Provide specialist technical advice on environmental permitting and UK ETS requirements, supporting projects and operational sites to ensure regulatory compliance and robust environmental performance.


• Lead the delivery of the annual UK Emissions Trading Scheme (UK ETS) monitoring, reporting and verification cycle for the Uniper UK Generation fleet, ensuring data integrity and compliance with regulatory obligations.


• Maintain and improve carbon reporting processes, monitoring plans and associated governance to ensure consistent carbon accounting and audit readiness across assets.


• Maintain effective working relationships with regulators and trusted external partners, supporting constructive regulatory engagement on permitting and carbon compliance matters.


• Support regulatory horizon scanning and contribute to the development of internal guidance, company positions and implementation plans for emerging environmental and carbon regulations.

Your profile

• Strong stakeholder management, influencing and negotiation skills, with the ability to build effective relationships and work constructively with regulators, consultants, project teams and senior leaders.


• Significant practical experience of the UK Emissions Trading Scheme (UK ETS), including permit management, monitoring plans, emissions reporting, verification processes and regulator engagement.


• Significant experience leading and managing planning applications and Environmental Permitting Regulations (EPR) applications for large industrial or infrastructure projects.


• Proven ability to develop permitting and consent strategies that support project delivery whilst maintaining regulatory compliance.


• Strong understanding of UK environmental legislation, regulatory frameworks and permitting requirements relevant to the energy, industrial or infrastructure sectors.


• Demonstrable experience of engaging with external regulators, including the Environment Agency, Natural Resources Wales, local authorities and other statutory consultees.


• Excellent project management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple complex workstreams, competing priorities and challenging timescales.


• Proven ability to identify, analyse and resolve complex technical and regulatory issues through the assessment of data, risks and available evidence.


• Experience managing external consultants and technical specialists, ensuring delivery of high-quality outputs to programme and budget requirements.


• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare and present clear technical reports, briefing papers, regulatory submissions and recommendations for senior stakeholders.


• Ability to provide expert environmental advice to development projects, operational assets and business leadership teams.


• Experience supporting major capital projects, operational assets, or nationally significant infrastructure projects through planning and permitting processes.


• Strong commercial awareness, including consideration of project risk, programme, cost and wider business objectives when developing regulatory strategies.


• Degree, HNC or equivalent qualification in Environmental Science, Engineering, Geography, Chemistry or a related discipline.
