Job summary

Jobtailor in Greater London seeks a senior Java architect to drive scalable, resilient software and define target architecture across banking platforms. You will lead complex initiatives, coordinate multiple teams, and shape roadmaps with architects for business outcomes.

You will design APIs/microservices, champion TDD and DevOps, and influence senior stakeholders while exploring AI-enabled UI/agentic AI opportunities using AWS, Bedrock, RAG, and vector databases.

Job description

• Design and engineer software with customer or user experience as the primary objective
• Help define major components of the business-wide target architecture and roadmap with architects
• Create customer outcomes through engineering, innovative solutions, and customer-centric, high-performance, secure, and robust technology designs
• Lead significant, complex, and technically challenging assignments
• Coordinate multiple feature teams and ensure technical journeys support target realisation
• Define, create, and provide oversight and governance of engineering and design solutions
• Design and engineer complex software, scripts, and tools for bank platforms, applications, and services
• Act as a point of contact for solution design considerations
• Define and develop architecture models and roadmaps for application and software components
• Drive common usability across products and domains

• Identify transformational opportunities across business and technology areas
• Work with senior stakeholders to shape technical strategy and translate complex business needs into effective solutions

Requirements

• Deep expertise in Java software engineering, application architecture, and API/microservices design
• Strong track record delivering scalable, resilient solutions within Agile and DevOps environments
• Significant experience in Java software engineering, architecture, and designing APIs and microservices using modern design patterns and AWS
• Extensive knowledge of customer journey UIs, with experience or awareness of integrating Agentic AI into user interfaces and workflow design
• Strong background leading engineering teams in complex matrix environments
• Experience defining and delivering technical strategy and influencing senior stakeholders
• Expertise in DevOps, Agile delivery, automation, scalability, performance optimisation, resilience, virtualisation, and engineering best practices
• Hands‑on experience with test‑driven development (TDD), automated testing frameworks, unit testing, mocking, and stubbing
• Experience or interest in React, Python, Generative and Agentic AI, Amazon Bedrock, AI agent development, Retrieval‑Augmented Generation (RAG), and vector databases
