Job Title: Senior Engineer

Department: Rail Systems
Reporting to: Project Manager
Location: Ashby-De-La-Zouch

Job Purpose

As a Senior Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality rail control and safety systems. From developing specifications and producing designs to commissioning and site work, this role will see you collaborating across disciplines and working directly with clients. You will be instrumental in managing technical interfaces, solving problems, and driving project success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Apply deep technical knowledge across SCADA, BMS, SISS, and mobile solutions.

  • Lead and support the design, build, and delivery of engineering solutions per customer specifications.

  • Produce and review technical documentation including specifications, drawings, and reports.

  • Liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders, maintaining strong client relationships.

  • Supervise engineering progress to ensure design, testing, and budgetary targets are achieved.

  • Ensure compliance with QHSE, CDM, Network Rail, and relevant industry standards.

  • Investigate and resolve technical issues on site, ensuring lessons learned are documented.

  • Approve technical designs and contribute to multidisciplinary project delivery.

  • Prepare high-quality written communications and technical submissions for clients.

  • Lead or assist in bid preparation, quotations, and proposals alongside the sales team.

  • Promote continuous improvement and knowledge sharing across the engineering team.

  • Conduct site surveys, installation reviews, and testing as required.

  • Stay current on industry developments, tools, and standards.

  • Assist with scope definition, engineering plans, and supporting contract change management.

Required Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience in the rail industry, specifically with control systems.

  • Engineering qualification (HNC, HND, BEng or equivalent) or substantial relevant experience.

  • TÜV functional safety certification is desirable.

  • Strong understanding of BS, ISO, CDM, Network Rail standards.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word), Visio, and CAD software.

  • Able to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and general arrangements.

  • Programming knowledge in:

    • C, Assembler, Visual Basic, scripting/macros (where applicable)

    • Software platforms such as Silworx, GX Works, GOT HMI, Iconics (where applicable)

  • Confident leading projects to meet technical requirements and client expectations.

  • Strong time management and prioritisation skills.

  • Self-motivated, proactive, and adaptable to changing demands.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work independently or within a team.

  • Desire for continuous professional development and mentoring others.

Working Hours & Flexibility
  • Total Weekly Hours: 37.5

  • Flexible Hours: Between 07:00 and 18:00, Monday to Friday

  • Core Hours:

    • Monday to Thursday: 09:00 – 16:00

    • Friday: 09:00 – 12:00

  • Lunch Break: 12:00 – 12:30 daily
