We are looking to strengthen our engineering team with a Senior Mechanical Engineer based in Preston. Hybrid working is available, with an expectation to attend sites regularly.
You will report directly to the RDL, providing high-quality engineering design services to minimize risks and maximize profits on turnkey and engineering services contracts. Your role will include coordinating design activities and producing design documents and drawings, taking into account health and safety requirements, specifications, and standards.
Key responsibilities include:
- Producing cost-effective design layouts that meet specifications and can be effectively constructed and commissioned. This involves considering all associated costs, including design time, materials, erection, and impacts on other disciplines.
- Utilizing standard practices wherever possible, maintaining competitiveness, and providing estimates and feedback to the proposals department.
- Following procedures and processes to support departmental development, including writing, updating, and monitoring these procedures.
- Coordinating designs with all disciplines involved to ensure integrated contract execution.
- Maintaining files and records throughout contract durations.
- Ensuring customer satisfaction and fostering a culture where customer needs are prioritized.
- Maintaining a personal development plan and assisting in supervising and developing staff.
- Contributing to a safe working environment and minimizing waste.
- Ensuring designs consider environmental issues and health and safety requirements.
Essential qualifications and experience:
- Understanding principles of water and sewage treatment.
- Experience managing staff in relevant discipline design for water and sewage treatment plants.
- Membership of a professional institution, chartered or nearing chartership.
Preferable qualifications:
- Relevant engineering degree.
Minimum requirements:
- Relevant discipline engineering HND.
- Ability to rationalize designs and produce economical plant layouts.
- Good knowledge of water treatment aspects, including mechanical, process, electrical engineering, and project management.
- Flexible mindset and ability to handle large data sets.
- Ability to present technical proposals clearly and confidently.
- Computer literacy and a driving license.
Desirable:
- Working towards Chartered Engineer status.
- Relevant Master's Degree in Engineering.
