Job summary

VolkerWessels UK Ltd. is seeking an experienced Section Engineer for the Southern Renewals Enterprise (SRE) to lead on-site engineering activities in Kent. Based from Gravesend, you will own delivery, supervise earthworks and contribute to long-term rail infrastructure renewal across the Southern Route.

You will work within the Earthworks team, develop leadership capabilities, manage programme planning and maintain safety, quality and environmental standards on site.

Qualifications

• Degree, HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience delivering civil engineering infrastructure projects.
• Good understanding of construction techniques, engineering controls and project delivery processes.
• Experience supervising engineering activities and coordinating site operations.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.
• Ability to interpret design information and resolve technical issues on site.
• Full UK driving licence.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Section Engineer to join our team working on the Southern Renewals Enterprise (SRE), a major 10-year collaborative framework with Network Rail focused on enhancing and renewing railway infrastructure across the Southern Route.

Working within our Earthworks team, you will be based from our Gravesend office and support the delivery of projects across Kent. This role is well suited to an engineer looking to take greater ownership of project delivery, lead engineering activities on site, and contribute to the successful execution of critical rail infrastructure works.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to further develop your engineering and leadership capabilities while contributing to a long-term infrastructure programme. You will gain exposure to; rail renewals and earthworks delivery, engineering management and team leadership, programme and construction planning, stakeholder and client relationships, commercial awareness and project controls, safety, quality and environmental management, and professional development and chartership support.

About you

We are looking for an individual who combines strong technical capability with a proactive approach to project delivery.

Essential

• Degree, HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience delivering civil engineering infrastructure projects.
• Good understanding of construction techniques, engineering controls and project delivery processes.
• Experience supervising engineering activities and coordinating site operations.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.

• Full UK driving licence.

Desirable

• Previous rail or earthworks experience.
• Knowledge of Network Rail standards and procedures.
• CSCS card.
• Temporary Works Coordinator or Supervisor training.
• Working towards or holding professional membership with ICE or a similar institution.
