Job summary

National Highways in England seeks a Senior Structures Engineer for the Yorkshire and North East region on a permanent basis. Based from Leeds, Wakefield or Darlington, you will lead asset management of highway structures, develop technical documents and coordinate renewals and improvements.

The role requires Chartered or Incorporated Civil or Structural Engineer with experience in DMRB, Eurocodes and CDM 2015; driving is required with no more than 3 points on your licence.

Qualifications

• Chartered or Incorporated Civil/Structural Engineer with relevant experience.
• Experience in Highway Structures management, inspection, assessment and design.
• Knowledge of DMRB standards, Eurocodes and CDM 2015.
• Degree or HND in a relevant discipline.
• Awareness of CDM 2015 duties.

• Lead and coordinate asset data evaluation to develop early solutions.
• Lead development of improvements/renewals with options and cost considerations.
• Monitor delivery of early solutions and liaise with teams.
• Identify, briefs and support survey works for asset renewal.
• Develop technical briefs for design/construction contractors.

National Highways have an excellent opportunity for a Senior Structures Engineer to join our team in the Yorkshire and North East region on a permanent basis. The Senior Structures Engineer will provide technical expertise in the Asset Management and maintenance of Highway structures assets. As a Structures Engineer, you will lead on the development of structures (Bridges and other structures) asset management documents such as management of substandard structures, management of post tensioned structures.

This role can be based from one of our offices in Leeds, Wakefield or Darlington.

Please note that you will be required to drive as part of your role, and you will need to have no more than 3 points to be considered for this position and during employment.

• Lead and coordinate the activities and resources involved in the identification and evaluation of asset data and needs in order to develop early solutions, in line with agreed methodologies and prioritisation criteria.
• Lead the development of early solutions for improvements and/or renewals, including the compiling and checking of relevant documents, evidence and options for value management, taking into account new techniques, materials, buildability, and costs.
• Monitor the delivery of agreed early solutions and plans, liaising with the relevant teams to identify and/or rectify issues.
• Identify, prepare briefs and support delivery of survey works that support the improvement and/or renewal of assets.
• Develop the technical briefs provided to the design and construction contractors for improvement and renewals work.

About you.

• A Chartered or Incorporated Civil or Structural Engineer with appropriate experience, or equivalent
• Experience in Highway Structures management, inspection, assessment and design.
• Working knowledge of Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) standards, methods of working & Specification for Highway Works and Eurocodes.
• Degree or HND in relevant discipline
• Knowledge of Construction Design Management 2015 and associated duties.
