Role
As a Senior Engineer you will act as a team leader, support the Design Team Leader, take the lead on projects, mentor junior designers, and oversee the production of technically sound designs, calculations, drawings and documentation.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team, producing engineering solutions that comply with all relevant technical standards and client requirements while working independently and supervising junior staff.
- Prepare and check designs, calculations, drawings and documentation to meet quality, cost and programme criteria.
- Oversee the work of junior team members and take responsibility for their outputs.
- Commercially manage projects within the portfolio, controlling budgets and managing costs associated with deliverables.
- Liaise with client and supplier representatives, attend progress meetings and respond to queries.
- Contribute to bid preparation and the general work‑winning process.
- Work on site on a visiting basis, full‑time temporary role, or out‑of‑hours shift as required.
- Manage a small to medium single‑discipline technical team, including people‑management responsibilities when needed.
Qualifications
- Developed experience and expertise in Rail/Civil engineering, gained in an engineer role or equivalent.
- Comprehensive knowledge of design processes and procedures relevant to civil engineering.
- Ability to produce or oversee the production of technically sound rail engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements.
- Experience with health, safety and welfare tasks, e.g. Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.
- Successful completion of the initial professional development leading to Incorporated or Chartered status, or equivalent professional licence.
- Demonstrable commitment to achieving professional status within the required timeframe.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an appropriate subject, or demonstrable equivalent further learning.
