Job summary

Octopus Energy Trading, part of Octopus Energy Group, is building trading tech to power a Net Zero future. We’re hiring a data scientist to bring together internal and external data, build forecasting models for electricity demand and renewables in GB, and scale to Western Europe.

You’ll develop data pipelines, improve forecasting frameworks, automate processes, and work with Trading, Renewables, and other teams to deliver market-leading insights using Python and ML techniques.

Qualifications

• Experience with Python and ML techniques to build forecasting models.
• Ability to design and iterate forecasting approaches for demand and generation.
• Ability to communicate methodology and limitations to stakeholders.
• Comfort with quickly understanding industry concepts and commercial context.
• Team player with ownership across multiple projects.

Responsibilities

• Exploring data needs to trade the GB intraday power market.
• Building, improving and maintaining models to forecast electricity demand and renewable generation (GB, expanding to Western Europe).
• Finding high quality, novel data sources to form forecasts.
• Developing forecasting framework and tools.
• Maintaining and automating forecasting processes with checks and alerts.
• Using forecasting models to build or enhance price forecasts.
• Collaborating with Trading, Renewables, Flexibility and other teams to share insights.
