Job summary

Filtronic in Cambridge is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to design, develop and integrate embedded software and firmware for RF and communications products. You will work across Zephyr-based development, embedded Linux and bare-metal firmware, with opportunities to tackle networking, security and system hardening.

You will collaborate with RF, FPGA and hardware teams across the full product lifecycle, participating in bring-up, debugging and integration to support defence, telecoms

Qualifications

• Strong experience developing low-level embedded software and firmware.
• Experience with Zephyr and embedded Linux development.
• Prototype board bring-up and hardware/software integration experience.
• Ability to read circuit schematics and component datasheets.
• Strong C and C++ programming skills in resource-constrained environments.
• Experience with CAN, SPI, I2C, UART, RS422 interfaces.
• Strong debugging using oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
• Good written and verbal communication and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Architect, develop and maintain embedded firmware with Zephyr and bare-metal environments.
• Develop embedded Linux systems and Yocto-based platforms.
• Prototype board bring-up and debugging using oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
• Design and maintain board-to-board and digital interfaces (CAN, SPI, I2C, UART, RS422).
• Develop networking services and REST APIs, SNMP agents and OpenAPI specs.
• Build and debug TCP/UDP networking layers and optimize performance.
• Develop secure communications, including secure firmware updates and hardening.
• Create embedded Linux services, daemons, device drivers and middleware.
• Lead root-cause analysis for embedded networking/security issues.
• Define software requirements and technical documentation.
