Job summary

ALTEN in Plymouth is seeking an experienced Embedded Software Engineer to develop software for advanced embedded and real-time systems. You will contribute across the software lifecycle, from design and implementation to integration and verification, delivering high-quality solutions.

The role requires 5+ years in embedded C/C++, Linux RTOS, and strong system-integration skills. On-site work three days a week in Plymouth; candidates must be willing to obtain SC clearance.

Qualifications

• Proven experience developing embedded software using C and/or C++.
• Experience with Linux-based or real-time operating systems.
• Knowledge of software architecture, design principles, and lifecycle development processes.
• Experience integrating software with hardware platforms and supporting system-level integration activities.
• Knowledge of software verification, validation, debugging, and performance optimisation techniques.
• Strong communication skills across multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining high engineering standards.
• Proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement.
• Strong technical documentation and review capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain embedded software applications.
