Job summary

Smiths Detection Group in Hemel Hempstead is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to join our Software team and help develop the next generation of chemical and explosive trace detection systems.

You will design, develop and support embedded software on low-power microcontrollers and Linux environments, lead investigations, mentor juniors and contribute to architecture and agile processes.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years' experience developing software for embedded systems.
• Strong modern C/C++ programming skills within embedded environments.
• Experience working with low-power microcontrollers and embedded hardware.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain embedded software using modern C/C++.
• Work within embedded RTOS and Linux environments.
• Lead technical investigations and propose solutions to complex engineering challenges.
• Collaborate with hardware, systems and multidisciplinary teams.
• Define software interfaces, requirements and system behaviour.
• Conduct code reviews and support best practice software engineering.
• Perform unit, integration and system testing.
• Contribute to software architecture and technical documentation.
• Support Agile development activities, including sprint planning.
• Mentor and support junior engineers.
