Job summary

Teledyne Technologies Incorporated in Fareham, UK is seeking an experienced Embedded software engineer focused on the platform level of our hardware products. You will work with Linux and Android and help adapt standard behavior to our marine environment, participating in full product lifecycles.

You will collaborate with hardware and mechanical teams to deliver reliable devices, perform Linux platform bring-up, develop drivers, and contribute to testing and deployment in an agile setting.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Senior Platform Software Engineer focused on Linux bring-up.
• Experience with Linux kernel, drivers, and boot process.
• Familiarity with Yocto or Buildroot.
• Ability to read hardware schematics and debug across hardware/software.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills; agile environment.

Responsibilities

• Full Linux platform bring-up including bootloader, kernel, drivers, and dts.
• Build Linux root filesystem and device drivers for boards.
• Create reliable software upgrade processes.
• Write scripts and services to ensure board startup.
• Design and implement low-level drivers and protocols in RT environment.
• Test and debug hardware/software integration issues.
• Work with product team to define software requirements and architecture.
• Operate within an Agile development environment.

Job Description

Job Summary:

Embedded software engineer working on the platform level of our hardware products. This involves working with both Linux and Android and modifying the standard behaviour to work within our marine environment. Being involved in the full lifecycle of new products, working closely with other departments (such as hardware and mechanical engineering) to produce vital, high quality and reliable devices for our customers.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

• Full Linux platform bring-up (including bootloader, kernel, drivers and dts files) for our cutting-edge products, ensuring optimal performance, reliability and efficiency.
• Building the Linux root file system and device drivers for various boards.
• Creating reliable software upgrade processes.
• Writing scripts and services to ensure the board starts up correctly.
• Designing and implementing low-level drivers, components, and communication protocols for systems in a multi-threaded real-time environment.
• Conducting thorough testing and debugging of systems, identifying and resolving software and hardware integration issues.
• Working closely with the product development team to define software requirements, specifications, and system architecture.
• Working within an agile environment.

Job Qualifications:

• Proven experience as a Senior Platform Software Engineer, with a focus on Linux platform bring up.
• Familiarity with Yocto and/or buildroot.
• Proficiency in debugging tools and techniques, including use of scope probe when required.
• Solid understanding of hardware design principles and ability to read schematics.
• Android platform experience would be beneficial but is not required.
• Experience with various Linux capable processors.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
• Ability to be on site at least 4 days per week.
