As Senior Electronics Design Engineer you will play a significant role within a cross functional team charged with defining the hardware architecture and managing the flow down of hardware requirements to each of the identified hardware elements.
This role includes creating architectural designs, and managing interfaces between subsystems, and creating performance metrics to measure the definition of done. Additionally, you will be required to create specification and execution of tests to verify both the proposed and implemented solution(s) meets the customer requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and manage progress of your assigned design activities, to ensure delivery to agreed time, cost and quality targets.
- Represent the hardware team into multi-discipline team activities, such as definition of systems architecture, platform design, and derivation of hardware requirements.
- Support, and in some cases lead the specification and selection for off-board mounted electrical components such as contactors, isolators, displays, etc.
- Develop your designs through the full product design lifecycle, from concept into volume production, following the prescribed hardware development process, observing and respecting department standards and guidelines.
- Undertake design analysis activities such as DFMEA, reliability modelling, and where appropriate also functional safety analysis in accordance with the documented processes.
- Work closely with the assigned PCB design resources to oversee and direct the PCB layout activity, followed by review and sign-off on the completed PCB design.
- Direct and supervise the assembly of first prototypes. Plan and implement the board bring up tests. Participate in planning and implementation of the integration testing programme.
- Responsible to develop the production test specification, and to review and approve the final production test solution.
Key Requirements:
- Qualified to at least degree level in electronics engineering.
- Significant experience in design of high-speed processor boards with mixed signal content, including high voltage and current measurement circuits, contactor drivers, small DC/DC converters and voltage regulator circuits.
- Excellent working knowledge in the principles of design for EMC and application to the design of microprocessor board designs, having developed at least one design through to successful EMC certification.
- Familiar with systems engineering, requirements capture and hardware architecture design, including experience in design of safety critical circuits to at least ISO26262 ASIL C level.
- Experienced in conducting FMEA, fault tree analysis and reliability estimation of HW designs.
- Experienced and competent in lab-based testing, in design and execution of board bring up tests, design proving, design verification and certification tests. Will have experience in supporting product level tests at external test sites, including EMC testing to secure CE certification for at least one design.
- Competent in structured problem-solving techniques, able to coach and mentor less experienced team members to analyse and solve difficult problems.
- Experience with schematic capture and PCB design in Altium 365 would be a distinct advantage.
