Job summary

JCB Ltd in Uttoxeter seeks a Senior Engineer to design, develop and deploy electrical and electronic systems for excavators. You will work with a focused systems engineering team translating requirements into real-world machine operation and functionality.

The role involves defining customer and system requirements, identifying architectures, and coordinating with suppliers to deliver robust solutions that meet environmental and cost targets. Occasional travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Strong electrical and electronic engineering foundation across concept to delivery.
• Experience translating customer requirements into testable functional specs.
• Familiarity with CAN-based protocols (J1939, CANOpen) and ECU communications.
• Experience with Simulink models and CANoe simulations for testing.
• Awareness of functional safety and cybersecurity implications in system design.

Responsibilities

• Translate the voice of the customer into clear, testable functional requirements.
• Design and evaluate system architectures across multiple products, driving commonality and reuse.
• Develop software and system architectures to deliver technical solutions.
• Coordinate third-party suppliers and define software architectures.
• Ensure robust ECU communications using SAE J1939, CANoe and related protocols.
• Read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams; ensure DFM considerations.
