Job summary

VIQU IT Recruitment supports a leading UK renewable energy organisation seeking an Electrical Lead to own the electrical function across the business, with a primary focus on utility-scale Solar PV and BESS projects.

The role requires senior leadership, setting technical standards, and developing the electrical and commissioning capability, including building an in‑house team and liaising with DNOs, subcontractors, and senior leadership through tendering, design, construction and energisation.

Qualifications

• Qualified electrician with a Level 3 NVQ in Electrical Installations.
• Current 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671), including Amendment 4 and BESS requirements.
• Solar PV installation qualification (City & Guilds 2922 or equivalent).
• City & Guilds 2391 or equivalent Inspection & Testing qualification.
• Current ECS Gold Card.
• IOSH Managing Safely or NEBOSH General Certificate; NEBOSH preferred.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Minimum 7 years electrical contracting experience in renewables.
• Significant experience on utility-scale Solar PV and BESS construction & commissioning.
• Senior/lead/management electrical experience.
• Experience managing DNO relationships from grid connections through to G99 testing and energisation.
• HV works and DNO safe systems of work experience.
• Experience reviewing subcontractor RAMS and technical documentation in CDM environments.
• Familiarity with SCADA, inverter communications, and electrical monitoring in Solar PV/BESS.
• ISO management systems or QMS awareness advantageous.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, ETAP or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the electrical function, setting technical standards, culture, and direction across the business.
• Recruit, mentor, and performance‑manage electrical and commissioning staff as the department grows.
• Act as the primary escalation point for electrical technical issues across the business.
• Ensure electrical installations comply with BS 7671, CDM 2015, UK legislation, and BESS requirements.
• Lead DNO engagement from grid connection applications through to HV energisation and post‑commissioning sign‑off.
• Manage HV safety documentation, switching schedules, and safe systems of work per DNO requirements.
• Coordinate and witness G99 commissioning tests with DNOs, achieving key grid milestones.
• Provide input into tenders, electrical scope, specifications, design reviews, and value engineering.
• Review electrical designs and subcontractor submissions for accuracy and buildability.
• Develop and maintain electrical policies and procedures as part of the management system.
• Support ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 audits as electrical SME.
• Provide technical support to site teams including drawings and procurement decisions.
• Review and approve subcontractor RAMS and electrical documentation before works commence.
• Oversee integration of SCADA, inverter, and monitoring systems across Solar PV and BESS.
• Build and lead an in-house commissioning team; reduce reliance on subcontracted resources.
• Plan HV and LV commissioning activities, pre-energisation checks, and BESS commissioning.
• Review and approve electrical certification, test results, EICRs, O&M manuals, and as-built docs.
