Job summary

Aldwych Consulting is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to lead major data centre and mission‑critical developments across the UK and Europe. You will influence project strategy, develop engineering teams and build strong client relationships.

The role involves shaping solutions from early feasibility to construction, ensuring resilience, high availability and compliant electrical infrastructure for high‑density computing and AI operations.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in Electrical/Building Services engineering or related discipline.
• Extensive experience in electrical building services design and project delivery.
• Strong knowledge of electrical distribution and critical power systems.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary design teams on complex projects.
• Familiarity with UK regs and standards incl. BS 7671 and EN 50600.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership on major electrical engineering projects, ensuring design quality and suitability.
• Lead electrical strategies from feasibility through construction and handover.
• Set project design approaches, requirements and engineering principles at outset.
• Develop resilient power strategies for mission‑critical facilities (N, N+1, 2N).
• Oversee LV distribution, standby generation, UPS, busbar and control systems.
• Guide HV/MV systems, utility connections and infrastructure with consultants and suppliers.
• Review proposals for technical robustness, practicality and commercial fit.
• Act as senior technical contact for clients, contractors and suppliers.
• Contribute to tenders, procurement strategies and design reviews.
• Support construction and commissioning, resolving complex issues with direction.
• Lead design reviews and workshops with stakeholders.
• Mentor engineers to strengthen team capability.
