Job summary

PRS is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer – SME to provide regional technical leadership across UK & EMEA data centre portfolios. You will act as a senior technical authority, guiding complex electrical design, operation, and safety standards while mentoring engineers and apprentices.

The role requires deep understanding of HV/LV systems, UPS, generators and switchgear, with a focus on reliability, resilience and continuous improvement across multiple sites and international projects.

PRS is working with a major global technology and data center organisation to appoint an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer into its Central Engineering function.

This is a highly influential Electrical Subject Matter Expert (SME) position, providing technical leadership across a major UK and EMEA data center portfolio.

The organisation operates one of the world's largest global data center platforms, with a substantial international footprint across North America, Europe, Asia and other key markets. Its EMEA operation spans multiple countries and continues to develop and expand its critical infrastructure portfolio.

This is an opportunity for an experienced Electrical Engineer to move beyond single-site responsibility and have a genuine regional technical influence across the UK and Western Europe.

The Opportunity

As Senior Electrical Engineer – SME, you will provide technical leadership across a team of highly skilled Electrical Engineers and apprentices.

You will act as a senior technical authority and escalation point, working closely with:

• Design & Projects
• OEMs
• Customers
• Contractors
• External engineering partners
• Senior leadership

The role requires someone who understands electrical systems at a granular engineering level — not simply what a system does, but why it works, how it can fail, how it should be protected and maintained, and how its reliability and resilience can be continually improved.

Key Responsibilities

Electrical SME & Technical Leadership

• Act as a senior Electrical SME across the UK and EMEA data centre portfolio.
• Provide technical guidance on complex electrical engineering matters.
• Support operational teams with technical escalation and engineering decisions.
• Review electrical designs, modifications and technical proposals.
• Provide engineering input into new projects and infrastructure upgrades.
• Support commissioning, testing and technical acceptance.
• Establish and promote engineering standards and best practice.

Critical Power Systems

Provide expert technical oversight across large-scale mission-critical electrical infrastructure, including:

• HV electrical distribution
• LV electrical distribution
• HV/LV switchgear
• Transformers
• UPS systems
• Standby generation
• Automatic transfer systems
• Protection and control
• BMS / EMS
• Critical power distribution
• Electrical monitoring and control systems

The successful candidate will be expected to understand these systems beyond day-to-day operation, including design intent, protection, failure modes, maintenance, testing, commissioning and system resilience.

HV Electrical Safety

Previous experience and qualification as a High Voltage Authorising Engineer is essential.

You will be involved in:

• Supporting and developing Electrical Safety Rules.
• Providing technical guidance on HV/LV electrical safety.
• Supporting Authorised Persons and operational engineering teams.
• Reviewing electrical switching and safety procedures.
• Supporting electrical incident investigations.
• Providing technical input into electrical risk management.
• Ensuring consistent electrical safety standards across the portfolio.

Engineering Leadership & Development

You will provide technical leadership to Electrical Engineers and apprentices across the organisation.

Responsibilities include:

• Technical mentoring and coaching.
• Establishing consistent technical standards.
• Developing engineering capability across multiple sites.
• Supporting succession planning and professional development.
• Promoting a strong engineering, safety and continuous-improvement culture.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role. We are looking for someone who enjoys getting into the engineering detail while also having the ability to influence, mentor and develop others.

You will act as a senior escalation point for complex electrical issues and support investigations into incidents and system failures.

You will:

• Lead or support root-cause analysis.
• Identify recurring electrical issues.
• Develop corrective and preventative actions.
• Identify opportunities to improve reliability, resilience and efficiency.
• Share technical learning across the wider engineering organisation.
• SOP / EOP / Change Management
• Develop, review and improve electrical SOPs and EOPs.
• Provide technical input into operating and maintenance procedures.
• Support Change Advisory Board (CAB) processes.
• Review proposed engineering changes and associated risks.
• Ensure appropriate technical controls are implemented.
• Support planned maintenance, testing and commissioning strategies.

The role will provide technical input into projects and infrastructure development, including:

• Design assurance.
• Technical specifications.
• FAT / SAT / IST.
• Equipment selection and review.
• Post-project technical assurance.

The Ideal Candidate

This position is suited to an experienced Electrical Engineer who has developed into a Senior Engineer, Electrical SME, Technical Authority, Engineering Manager or HV Authorising Engineer within a mission-critical environment.

We are looking for someone who is technically curious, proactive, commercially aware and ambitious to progress their career.

• Electrical Engineering degree, HNC, HND or equivalent.
• Significant electrical engineering experience within a mission-critical environment.
• Previous HV Authorising Engineer experience and qualification – essential.
• Strong understanding of HV and LV electrical distribution.
• Detailed knowledge of UPS, generators, transformers and switchgear.
• Experience with electrical maintenance, testing and commissioning.
• Experience with Electrical Safety Rules and safe systems of work.
• Strong understanding of critical power resilience and availability.
• Experience developing or reviewing SOPs and EOPs.
• Experience providing technical leadership, mentoring or team management.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• CEng or active progression towards Chartered status.
• Experience with discrimination studies.
• Protection coordination.
• BMS / EMS.
• Previous EMEA or multi-country engineering responsibility.
• Experience supporting major data centre projects and commissioning.
• Additional European language skills including Dutch, Spanish, French or German.
