GH Engage is seeking a Senior Critical Electrical Engineer to lead technical decisions for mission-critical infrastructure in Hemel Hempstead. You will steer live operations, resilience planning and governance across HV/LV distribution, UPS, standby power, switchgear and protection systems.

Data centre or high‑pressure industry experience is preferred; data centre know‑how is beneficial but not essential. On-site with strong collaboration across sites and teams.

Qualifications

• Strong electrical engineering experience in critical/high-pressure environments.
• Knowledge of BS 7671 and UK electrical requirements.
• Experience with UPS, generators, transformers and distribution.
• Ability to carry out electrical load and capacity calculations.

Senior Critical Electrical Engineer – Mission Critical Infrastructure

Hemel Hempstead | Exceptional Salary + 15% Bonus + Car Allowance

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Senior Critical Electrical Engineer to join a leading owner and operator of mission-critical infrastructure, providing technical leadership across complex electrical systems throughout a regional portfolio.

This is a broad technical position spanning live operations, critical electrical infrastructure, projects, resilience and technical governance. You’ll support operational engineering teams across HV/LV distribution, UPS systems, standby generation, transformers, protection systems and electrical controls.

The role is well suited to an experienced electrical engineer from a data centre, banking, manufacturing or similarly high-pressure critical environment. Data centre experience is preferred, but is not essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical support and escalation across critical electrical infrastructure
• Support HV/LV switching, isolations and Safe Systems of Work
• Provide technical input during critical incidents and electrical failures
• Carry out electrical capacity, load and infrastructure calculations
• Support resilience, redundancy and power-capacity planning
• Review and improve electrical standards, procedures and maintenance strategies
• Support upgrades, replacement programmes and infrastructure expansion
• Contribute to Root Cause Analysis and technical investigations
• Work closely with operations, engineering and project teams across multiple sites
• Support commissioning and integrated systems testing where required

Requirements

• HNC/HND, Degree, City & Guilds electrical qualifications or equivalent
• Strong electrical engineering experience within a critical or high-pressure environment
• Strong working knowledge of HV distribution and LV switchgear
• Practical experience working with switchgear; HV/LV AP status is highly desirable but not essential
• Strong knowledge of UPS, generators, transformers and electrical distribution
• Understanding of protection systems and coordination/discrimination
• Good knowledge of BS 7671 and UK statutory electrical requirements
• Experience with Safe Systems of Work, Permit to Work and LOTO
• Ability to carry out electrical load and capacity calculations
• Strong technical fault-finding and incident-management capability

Experience with commissioning, new-build projects, UPS or generator replacements, major capacity upgrades, multi-site engineering programmes and SOP/MOP/EOP development would all be advantageous rather than mandatory.
