RG Setsquare in Hemel Hempstead is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead critical infrastructure facilities for a global data centre operator. You will own large-scale electrical systems, ensure reliability and drive engineering standards across a regional portfolio.

You will work across construction, testing, commissioning and operations, with UK and international travel up to 30%. The role involves audits, governance, and collaboration with training teams to elevate technical capability.

Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
Several years' experience in large-scale critical environments.
Experience in data centres, telecoms, power generation, or IT infra.
Knowledge of HV/LV, UPS, standby power, BMS/EMS and control systems.
Experience leading HV switching operations and Authorising Engineer.
Experience with senior stakeholders in technical critical-infrastructure.
Understanding of governance for operation and maintenance.
Fluent written and spoken English.
Familiarity with SOP/EOP and Change Advisory Board processes.
Knowledge of electrical safety standards and risk studies.

Responsibilities

Define and implement technical operations standards across the regional portfolio.
Maintain, optimise and operate electrical infrastructure safely.
Support energy-related business cases for infrastructure improvements.
Conduct site tours and inspections of critical facilities.
Attend internal and external engineering and quality audits.
Review and develop commissioning procedures with subcontractors.
Lead post-handover lessons learned for continuous improvement.
Review operational performance and update stakeholders regularly.
Collaborate with training to develop regional personnel capability.

Participate in regional call-out and escalation activities.

Location: Hemel Hempstead, with occasional UK and international travel

Salary: £85,000 + £6,750 car allowance + 15% bonus

Hours: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week

The Opportunity

We are recruiting for an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to join a leading global data centre operator.

Predominantly based at a major site in Hemel Hempstead, you will support regional engineering and critical facilities operations teams across the construction, testing, commissioning, management and operation of complex electrical infrastructure. You will play an important role in maintaining reliability, improving efficiency and ensuring consistently high engineering standards.

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior electrical professional with strong critical-environment experience to take ownership of large-scale systems and influence technical standards across a wider regional portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

Help define and implement technical operations standards across the regional portfolio.
Ensure electrical infrastructure is effectively maintained, optimised and operated safely.
Support the development of energy-related business cases for infrastructure improvements.
Conduct routine site tours and ad hoc inspections of critical facilities.
Attend internal and external engineering and quality audits.
Review and develop commissioning procedures, including processes involving specialist subcontractors.
Lead post-handover lessons-learned meetings to support continuous improvement.
Review the operational performance of electrical infrastructure and provide regular stakeholder updates.
Work with the training department to develop the technical capability of regional personnel.
Undertake project management duties, including planning, costing, procurement, subcontractor selection, supervision and delivery.
Participate in the regional call-out and escalation team when required.

About You

You will be an experienced electrical engineering professional with a strong background in critical infrastructure and high-availability environments.

Ideally, you will have:

A bachelor's or master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
Several years' experience working with electrical systems in a large-scale critical environment.
Experience within data centres, telecommunications, power generation, IT infrastructure or a comparable technical sector.
Excellent technical knowledge of HV, LV, UPS, standby power, BMS, EMS and associated control systems.
Experience leading HV switching operations and acting as a subject-matter expert or Authorising Engineer.
Experience working with senior stakeholders in a technical critical-infrastructure function.
A strong understanding of operational and maintenance governance principles.
Familiarity with SOP and EOP development and the Change Advisory Board process.
Knowledge of discrimination, short-circuit and arc-flash studies.
Experience operating in a European or multicultural environment.
Knowledge of the Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle and Root Cause Analysis frameworks.
A recognised European health and safety qualification, although this is desirable rather than essential.
Fluent written and spoken English.
Knowledge of EN 50110, REBT-2002 or a comparable electrical safety standard.
Flexibility to travel nationally and internationally, potentially up to 30%.
