Job summary

Randox Laboratories seeks a Senior Electrical Engineer to join the Engineering Design team in Antrim. You will own end-to-end design, development and delivery of new automation systems, coordinating cross-functional teams to meet regulatory and reliability standards.

You will mentor junior engineers, review designs and drive innovative automation solutions across platforms, sensors, actuators and robotics, ensuring scalable and compliant implementations.

Senior Electrical Engineer – (Job Ref: 26N/SNEE)

Location: Randox Science Park, 30 Randalstown Road, Antrim BT41 4FL.

Contract Offered: Full-time, Permanent.

Working Hours / Shifts: 40 hours per week, 8.40am to 5.20pm, or there is also the option to work 4x10 hour days or 4x9 hour days with a half day on a Friday.

The team focuses on the design and development of innovative diagnostic platforms and the implementation of advanced laboratory automation solutions.

What does this role involve?

This role is ideal for a highly driven individual who takes ownership of delivering innovative solutions in laboratory automation & integration of medical devices. Some of the main duties of the role will include:

  • End to end design, development and delivery of new automation systems, supporting both internal operational needs and future commercial market opportunities.
  • Concept development for new automation solutions aligned with internal workflow optimisation and broader product strategy.
  • Electrical and systems design of next generation automation platforms.
  • Prototyping, testing and validation to ensure systems meet regulatory, performance and reliability requirements.
  • Collaboration with cross functional teams including R&D, software, manufacturing engineering, purchasing and quality.
  • Supporting potential productisation of internal automation solutions for external markets ensuring scalability and compliance.
  • Driving innovation in automation technologies to enhance efficiency, throughput and usability across the product portfolio.
  • Relevant degree (or equivalent) in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the design, development and commissioning/installation of electrical and electronic systems.
  • Strong and comprehensive understanding of electrical and electronic engineering principles, with demonstrated application in complex design.
  • Strong hands on experience with CAD platforms.
  • Experience integrating electromechanical components such as sensors, actuators, drives, pneumatics or robotics.
  • Proven understanding of regulatory, statutory and safety compliance within engineering design (e.g. relevant national and international standards).
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and take ownership of designs from concept through to implementation.
  • Experience acting as lead engineer or technical authority on projects.
  • Ability to review, challenge, and approve design work produced by others.
  • Experience mentoring or supporting junior engineers and designers.
  • Experience with EPLAN Pro Panel, AutoCAD Electrical 3D or similar tools for panel design or automated electrical documentation.
  • Experience with ISO 13849-1, EMC Directive and Low Voltage Directive.
  • Knowledge of IPC Standards for design or manufacturing of cables or PCBS.
