Job summary

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks is hiring a Lead Design Engineer to oversee a diverse portfolio and drive cost-effective engineering solutions. You will lead a design team, coordinate internal and external resources, and ensure outputs meet SSEN standards and approvals.

Travel across various locations is required; a company vehicle is provided for work-related travel, with potential access to a company car scheme. A relevant Electrical Design degree is preferred.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Design preferred, or HNC with substantial relevant experience.
• Proven experience in people management with strong leadership and team coordination skills.
• Solid engineering design expertise with governed design processes and CDM regulations.
• Experience delivering high-quality work under tight deadlines in collaborative teams.
• Excellent negotiation, communication and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee a varied project design portfolio, coordinating internal and external resources and ensuring outputs meet SSEN standards.
• Lead development and delivery of cost-effective engineering solutions from feasibility to final design approval.
• Manage day-to-day operations of the design team, enhancing productivity and contractor performance.
• Identify and deliver improvement initiatives, set performance targets, and manage KPIs across the wider team.
• Collaborate with contractor design partners to ensure timely, on-budget design outputs.
