Job summary

ORE Catapult in Blyth is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join the Research & Engineering team. You will oversee electrical system design, installation, testing and commissioning for diverse offshore renewable energy projects, ensuring safety, quality and alignment with industry standards.

Key responsibilities include acting as Authorised Person for Low Voltage, leading design activities, and mentoring engineers, while collaborating with customers and suppliers to deliver on time

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartership with a recognised body.
• 5+ years' experience in electrical engineering environment.
• Experience in electrical design, installation, testing and commissioning.
• Knowledge of substations, transformers, converters, switchgear and protection systems.
• Experience with MATLAB, SIMULINK and EPLAN advantageous.
• BS7671 installation and testing standards knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Act as Authorised Person for Low Voltage electrical systems across the Blyth site.
• Design authority for electrical installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance activities.
• Lead design, installation, testing and commissioning of electrical systems and equipment.
• Provide technical expertise across commercial testing, research and capital projects.
• Manage multiple projects with quality, cost and schedule.
• Support tender preparation, evaluations and interfaces with customers and suppliers.
• Manage electrical contractors and supplier relationships.
• Produce and sign-off engineering reports, drawings and procedures.
• Maintain project and design records to meet accreditation requirements.
• Present progress, proposals and recommendations to colleagues and clients.
• Mentor engineers within the team.
• Identify opportunities for innovation and facility improvement.
• Ensure compliance with ISO45001, ISO14001, ISO9001 and ISO17025.
