Job summary

Michael Taylor Search & Selection Ltd is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to design and deliver electrical building services from concept through construction on a UK-wide portfolio of commercial, residential and mixed-use schemes.

You will lead detailed calculations, develop high-quality electrical and MEP designs, and engage with clients and multidisciplinary teams to ensure successful project delivery. Hybrid working and private healthcare are included.

Qualifications

• 5+ years' experience as an Electrical Design Engineer / Building Services Engineer.
• Strong client-facing experience and ability to communicate technical information clearly.
• Excellent knowledge of electrical building services systems and design principles.

Responsibilities

• Lead and contribute to the design and delivery of electrical building services projects.
• Undertake detailed electrical engineering calculations to support designs.
• Develop detailed electrical and MEP designs from concept through to construction.
• Design and develop electrical systems including power, lighting, life safety and containment.
• Produce high-quality technical information, drawings and design documentation.
• Coordinate electrical designs with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
• Attend client meetings and design reviews, and mentor junior engineers.

Role: Senior Electrical Design Engineer – £55,000 - £65,000 + Package

As a Senior Electrical Design Engineer, you'll be responsible for the design and delivery of electrical building services projects from concept through to construction.

The role offers a strong hands-on design focus, with particular emphasis on undertaking detailed electrical engineering calculations and developing high-quality electrical and MEP designs across a range of projects.

You'll also play an important role in client-facing activities and stakeholder engagement, working closely with clients, consultants and multidisciplinary project teams to understand requirements, develop effective engineering solutions and ensure successful project delivery.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer who enjoys both the technical and client-facing aspects of building services design and is looking to take on greater responsibility within a large, established organisation.

Role & Responsibilities

• Lead and contribute to the design and delivery of electrical building services projects.
• Undertake detailed electrical engineering calculations to support project designs and engineering decisions.
• Develop detailed electrical and MEP designs from concept through to detailed design and construction.
• Design and develop electrical systems including power, lighting, life safety, small power, containment and associated building services systems.
• Produce high-quality technical information, drawings, specifications and design documentation in line with project requirements and programmes.
• Develop practical, innovative and sustainable electrical engineering solutions tailored to client requirements.
• Take a hands-on role in resolving technical design challenges throughout the project lifecycle.
• Coordinate electrical designs with architectural, structural, mechanical, sustainability and wider MEP requirements.
• Work closely with clients and stakeholders to understand project requirements and provide appropriate technical solutions.
• Attend and actively contribute to client meetings, design reviews and project discussions.
• Support and mentor junior engineers and contribute to the development of the wider electrical engineering team.

The Ideal Candidate

• 5+ years' experience as an Electrical Design Engineer / Building Services Engineer.
• HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
• Strong hands-on electrical design experience within the building services sector.
• Proven experience undertaking detailed electrical engineering calculations and developing detailed MEP designs.
• Strong technical knowledge of electrical building services systems, design principles and relevant standards.
• Experience working on commercial projects; experience across residential or mixed-use developments would also be beneficial.
• Strong client-facing experience, with the ability to communicate technical information clearly to clients and stakeholders.
• Experience coordinating electrical designs within multidisciplinary project teams.
• Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
