Job summary

ORE Catapult in Blyth is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join the Research & Engineering team. You will lead design, installation, testing and commissioning of electrical systems across a diverse portfolio of offshore energy projects, ensuring safety, quality and regulatory compliance.

The role requires chartered status or working towards it, a degree in electrical engineering, and hands-on expertise with substations, transformers, protection schemes, and power generation

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartership.
• 5+ years' experience in electrical engineering.
• Experience in electrical design, installation, testing and commissioning.
• Strong knowledge of electrical systems including substations, transformers, converters, switchgear and protection systems.
• Experience testing electrical equipment and protection settings.
• Experience with electrical and mechanical power generation equipment.
• MATLAB, SIMULINK and EPLAN experience is advantageous.
• Knowledge of BS7671 installation and testing standards.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Act as design authority for electrical installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance.
• Lead design, installation, testing and commissioning of electrical systems.
• Provide technical expertise across testing, research and capital projects.
• Manage multiple projects with quality, cost and time controls.
• Support tender preparation, technical evaluations and interfaces.
• Manage electrical contractors and supplier relationships.
• Produce and sign off engineering reports, drawings and procedures.
• Maintain accurate project and design records and documents.
• Present progress and recommendations to colleagues and clients.
• Mentor and develop engineers within the team.
• Identify opportunities for innovation and facility enhancements.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality standards.
