Job summary

ORE Catapult in Blyth, Northumberland, is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join the Research & Engineering team. You will oversee design, installation, testing and commissioning of electrical systems across a portfolio of projects to support offshore renewable energy technologies.

The role requires degree in Electrical Engineering, Chartered status or progress toward Chartership, and 5+ years' experience.

Qualifications

Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartership with a recognised professional body.
5+ years' experience in a relevant electrical engineering environment.
Experience in electrical design, installation, testing and commissioning.
Knowledge of electrical systems including substations, transformers, converters, switchgear and protection systems.
Experience of electrical equipment testing and protection settings.
Experience of electrical and mechanical power generation equipment.
Experience using engineering software such as MATLAB, SIMULINK and EPLAN is advantageous.
Detailed knowledge of BS7671 installation and testing standards.
Strong technical, analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Responsibilities

Act as an Authorised Person for Low Voltage electrical systems across the Blyth site.
Lead the design, installation, testing and commissioning of electrical systems and equipment.
Provide technical expertise across commercial testing, research and capital projects.
Manage multiple projects delivering against quality, cost and timescale requirements.
Support tender preparation, technical evaluations and client interfaces.
Mentor and develop engineers within the team.
Ensure compliance with ISO45001, ISO14001 and ISO9001 and ISO17025.
Maintain accurate project and design records and present progress to stakeholders.
