Job summary

JAM Recruitment Ltd is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join its project delivery team in Cambridge. You will design electrical systems for building services projects, ensuring compliance with UK regulations and industry standards while delivering safe, energy-efficient solutions.

The role requires 3–5 years of UK building services design experience, proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit MEP, and the ability to coordinate with architects, contractors and clients.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 3–5 years' experience in electrical building services design (UK market).
• Strong knowledge of BS 7671 and UK Building Regulations (Parts B, L, M, P).
• Experience designing electrical systems for commercial, residential or mixed-use buildings.
• Familiarity with Building Control processes and electrical certification.

Responsibilities

• Design electrical systems for building services projects (power, lighting, fire alarms, etc.).
• Ensure designs meet UK Building Regulations and BS 7671.
• Perform load, diversity, fault level calculations and cable sizing.
• Prepare specs, single-line diagrams, panel schedules and cost estimates.
• Coordinate with AutoCAD, Revit MEP and other tools.
• Conduct site surveys and verify installations against design requirements.
• Prepare Building Control submissions and electrical compliance records.
• Collaborate with architects, MEP engineers, contractors and clients.
• Liaise with DNOs for new connections and capacity upgrades.
• Incorporate energy efficiency and renewables into designs.
