EnerSys is seeking a Senior Electrical & Controls Engineer in Newport, Wales, to lead high‑voltage electrical and controls initiatives across our production equipment and facility systems. You will design, implement, and validate automation solutions, collaborating with maintenance and operations to improve safety and reliability.

The impact you will make

As aSenior Electrical & Controls Engineer, you will support and lead initiatives that enhance the performance, safety, and reliability of our production equipment and electrical systems Including HV Systems and switchgear.

Working closely with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams, you will help drive continuous improvement while ensuring our systems meet the highest operational and safety standards.

What you will do
  • Provide support for the maintenance and monitoring / testing of HV equipment switchgear transformers and RMU’s
  • Lead electrical and controls engineering projects from concept through implementation
  • Support the reliability, performance, and modernization of manufacturing equipment and production systems
  • Troubleshoot complex electrical and controls-related issues across the facility
  • Collaborate with OEMs, contractors, and system integrators on equipment upgrades and installations
  • Develop and maintain electrical schematics, control system documentation, and technical standards
  • Support PLC modifications and controls improvements when required
  • Participate in commissioning, validation, and startup activities for new equipment
  • Ensure compliance with electrical, safety, and HSE standards
  • Provide technical guidance and support to maintenance and engineering teams.
  • Utilise company energy monitoring system to run reports and look for energy saving opportunities.
What will help you succeed
  • Qualified in High Voltage (HV) systems, ideally holding Senior Authorised Person (SAP) status and AP15 certification.
  • Experience in manufacturing automation or industrial engineering
  • Strong hands-on expertise with PLCs (Siemens or Allen Bradley)
  • Knowledge of robotics, motion systems, and industrial communications
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex systems and drive solutions independently
  • Experience managing technical projects from concept to completion
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills
