Job summary

Stantec is seeking experienced Senior / Principal Ecologists to join its Ecology team across the UK, including Birmingham, London, and Manchester. You will oversee ecological services, advise clients, and shape sustainable development proposals while delivering Biodiversity Net Gain and habitat restoration across diverse projects.

You will manage surveys, reports, and licensing processes, mentor junior ecologists, and contribute to nature-based solutions within multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Degree in Ecology, Conservation, Earth Sciences or related environmental discipline.
• Full member of CIEEM or working towards membership.
• Strong understanding of UK ecology, environmental legislation and planning system.
• Experience delivering complex ecological projects through planning and/or delivery stages.

Responsibilities

• Deliver ecological assessments and mitigation strategies for development projects.
• Provide expert ecological advice to clients and project teams.
• Coordinate ecological field surveys through a network of ecologists.
• Lead preparation and review of technical reports (PEAs, EcIAs, HRAs, Biodiversity chapters).
• Support Biodiversity Net Gain strategies and habitat creation projects.
• Engage with planning authorities and stakeholders throughout delivery.
