Job summary

Stantec Inc. is seeking Senior/Principal Ecologists to join our Ecology team across the UK. The role focuses on biodiversity outcomes and Biodiversity Net Gain for a range of developments.

You will guide ecological mitigation, provide expert reporting, and coordinate field surveys with our network of ecologists. You will liaise with clients and stakeholders, contribute to licensing processes, and shape habitat restoration projects while aligning with our multidisciplinary project teams.

Qualifications

• Relevant degree in Ecology, Conservation, Earth Sciences or related environmental discipline.
• Full membership of CIEEM or working towards full membership.
• Strong working knowledge of UK ecology, legislation and the UK planning system.
• Proven experience in a professional ecological consultancy on complex projects through planning or delivery.
• Ability to think creatively and strategically in solving ecological challenges.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Experience in compiling fee proposals and managing project budgets.
• Familiarity with UK Hab classifications and the Defra Biodiversity Net Gain metric.

Responsibilities

• Deliver and oversee ecological mitigation and biodiversity benefits for developments.
• Lead ecological field surveys via network of ecologists and ensure quality reporting.
• Prepare and provide evidence-based ecological advice to clients and colleagues.
• Engage with stakeholders and participate in licensing processes.
