Our people are driven by strong values based on safety, insight, and collaboration.

The Opportunity

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Senior Ecologist to join our Energy Transition & Sustainability (ET&S) team. With shared office space in Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Perth, we welcome applications from Senior Ecologists across Scotland.

This role involves supporting ecology-related activities on various road contracts in Scotland, including the South West Network Management Contract for Transport Scotland, active travel schemes (e.g., AMIDS Renfrewshire), and the North Angus Growth Opportunity. As a Senior Ecologist, you will support the development and growth of our team in Scotland, potentially leading ecology-specific business development opportunities.

The Role

Our Ecologists are vital to the ET&S team and our clients. As a Senior Ecologist, you will provide support to Ecology leads on various schemes, lead projects, and mentor junior Ecologists.

You will also provide ecological support to regional and national projects across sectors such as highways, rail, local authorities, central government, aviation, and waste.

Responsibilities include:
  • Producing technically sound deliverables for ecological commissions.
  • Preparing and checking documentation to meet quality, cost, and schedule criteria.
  • Communicating with clients and suppliers, attending meetings, and responding to queries.
  • Managing a small, locally based technical team and overseeing their workload.
  • Contributing to bids and business development activities.
  • Promoting health and safety practices within the team.
What you will bring to us:
  • Experience and expertise in ecology.
  • Specialist knowledge in protected species surveys.
  • EPS Mitigation license application experience; protected species license holder or working towards it (notable species: bats & dormice).
  • Experience in invasive species survey and management.
  • Knowledge of ecological processes and survey methodologies.
  • Ability to produce technically sound ecological solutions complying with standards and legislation.
  • Understanding of ecological management principles.
  • Experience with health, safety, and welfare tasks related to projects.
  • Risk assessment skills and hazard management experience.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Ecology, Zoology, Botany, Biology, Environmental Science, or equivalent.
