The Opportunity

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Senior Ecologist to join our Energy Transition & Sustainability (ET&S) team. With shared office space in Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Perth, we welcome applications from Senior Ecologists across Scotland.

This role involves supporting ecology-related activities on various road contracts in Scotland, including the South West Network Management Contract for Transport Scotland, active travel schemes (e.g., AMIDS Renfrewshire), and the North Angus Growth Opportunity. As a Senior Ecologist, you will support team development in Scotland, potentially leading on ecology-specific business development opportunities.

The role

Our Ecologists play a vital role within the ET&S team and in collaboration with clients. As a Senior Ecologist, you will support Ecology leads on various schemes, lead projects, and mentor junior Ecologists.

You will also provide ecological support to regional and national projects across sectors like highways, rail, local authorities, central government, aviation, and waste.

Responsibilities include:

1. Producing technically sound deliverables for ecological commissions.
2. Preparing and checking documentation to meet quality, cost, and schedule criteria.
3. Engaging with clients and suppliers, attending meetings, and responding to queries.
4. Managing a small, locally based ecological team and overseeing their workload.
5. Contributing to bids and business development activities.
6. Promoting health and safety practices within the team.

What you will bring to us

• Experience and expertise in ecology, including protected species surveys.
• EPS Mitigation licence experience; protected species licence holder or working towards it (notable species: bats & dormice).
• Experience in invasive species survey and management.
• Knowledge of ecological processes and survey methodologies.
• Ability to produce compliant ecological solutions respecting legislation and standards.
• Understanding of ecological management principles.
• Experience with health, safety, and welfare project tasks, including Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.
• Good risk assessment skills and hazard management experience.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Ecology, Zoology, Botany, Biology, Environmental Science, or equivalent.
