Job summary

Bloomberg is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for distributed databases in London. You will work on a 10,000+ shard Vitess/MySQL/MyRocks fleet, designing and implementing safe operations across regions, and contributing upstream changes. The role spans Go and C++ development, debugging, and on-call rotations.

You will diagnose production issues, improve replication, failover, and schema changes, while collaborating with the CTO and engineering teams to shape Bloomberg's storage platform.

Qualifications

• Experience designing, building, or operating distributed databases or production infrastructure at scale.
• Deep knowledge of Vitess, MySQL internals, or MyRocks/RocksDB storage engines.
• Strong Go and/or C++ software engineering skills and ability to work on mature codebases.
• Experience debugging production behavior via profiling, tracing, and OS telemetry.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement capabilities to safely operate a large Vitess/MySQL/MyRocks fleet across regions.
• Contribute fixes and features upstream to Vitess and related ecosystems.
• Diagnose production issues across query execution, transactions, and storage engines.
• Lead technical designs, mentor engineers, and participate in incident investigations.
