Within VML HEALTH, the Global Strategy Team (GST) comprises diverse strategic thinkers working independently or collaboratively with clients. The GST includes Medical Strategy, Engagement Strategy, Brand Strategy, and Medical Consulting. This role is within the Engagement Strategy team and our European Hub.

About the Position

Title: Senior Engagement (Digital) Strategist

Reports to: Head of Engagement Strategy

Location: Hybrid, based in London or Manchester

Role Overview

As Senior Engagement Strategist, you will lead a human-centered approach to creating impactful experiences by understanding and translating human empathy and behaviors. You will identify emerging opportunities at the intersection of people, culture, technology, and business, providing strategic insights and leadership.

You will operate independently, managing discovery, synthesis, development, and business impact of engagement strategies, inspiring change through curiosity and action.

What Success Looks Like

Daily Responsibilities:

  • Deeply understand client’s customers’ needs, wants, and behaviors across the full customer journey.
  • Develop and orchestrate omnichannel engagement strategies, connecting strategic goals to specific channels (social, CRM, website, paid media, apps, etc.), enabling personalization at scale.
  • Set expectations for audience segments and how they inform project strategies.
  • Analyze data using various frameworks, translating insights into clear stories.
  • Lead workshops, develop measurement and analytics strategies, and create engaging content and presentations.

Client Interaction:

  • Manage strategic development for major clients or multiple accounts.
  • Build and maintain senior client relationships as a trusted strategic partner.
  • Support new business pitches with strategic input.
  • Continuously analyze and improve client strategies and opportunities.
  • Guide strategic direction in brand development and marketing approaches.

Team Development:

  • Mentor and support junior strategists in strategy development.
  • Motivate team members to learn, contribute, and innovate.
  • Encourage risk-taking and challenge conventions.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to align strategies and communications.

Candidate Profile:

  • 7-13 years experience in research and strategic planning.
  • Experience in HCP and DTC marketing agencies.
  • Critical thinker, innovative, and visionary.
  • Passionate and curious about healthcare practice.
  • Deep understanding of global, regional, and local communication contexts.
  • Strong skills in developing communication plans and driving innovation.
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher, with a multidisciplinary background.
