Job description

We are currently expanding our radiology department to support the inclusion of our services to the upcoming opening of the new Essex and Suffolk Elective Orthopaedic Centre. Therefore, we are seeking Senior Diagnostic Radiographers with proven post-registration experience to join us.

We are a busy radiography department carrying out a wide range of examinations including ED, CT, Outpatients, In-Patients, Dental, Interventional/Fluoroscopy (including barium examinations), cardiac, and ITU/ward portables. Your base will be Colchester Hospital, including travel to our Clacton Community Diagnostic Centre and Harwich Hospitals.

You will join a department that supports its staff to pursue academic courses and develop their careers within a supportive and friendly environment. We are a teaching department, and part of this role will be supervising our students and apprentices. In addition, you will be an effective leader of the team and wider multi-professional healthcare team.

You will be an autonomous practitioner who provides effective, high-quality individualized care to patients and relatives/carers and contributes to the continuing development of radiology practice. It is desirable to have specialist knowledge of CT procedures and practices.

It is a requirement to undertake a 7-day rostered week, including lates, nights, weekends, and bank holidays.

If you would like to be part of a flexible innovative team and enjoy using your initiative, we would like to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Undertake all diagnostic imaging procedures to a high standard, ensuring optimum patient care and compliance with ionising radiation regulations across the imaging modalities in the Trust and in satellite departments without direct supervision.
  2. Act with delegated authority as practitioner and modify agreed protocols, undertaking the most appropriate radiographic views to obtain diagnostic examinations.
  3. Deputise for area lead radiographer, taking responsibility for managing the area on a day-to-day basis in their absence.
  4. Act as point of contact for general imaging enquiries, acting appropriately, sensitively, and professionally to ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times, seeking more senior support if appropriate.
  5. Communicate decisions and outcomes from enquiries to the relevant senior staff member.
  6. Liaise with peers of all professional groups, radiologists, other medical officers, and technical staff in the delivery of high-quality patient care.
  7. Supervise junior radiographic and support staff, including undergraduates on clinical placement.
  8. Ensure adherence to Radiation Protection legislation/governance and report breaches using the DATIX incident reporting system, including notifying senior staff/RPS as appropriate.

We are ESNEFT, and we provide hospital and community health services to almost one million people across east Suffolk and north Essex. Our dedicated staff deliver care from acute hospitals in Colchester and Ipswich, community hospitals, surgeries, community clinics, and in patients’ own homes.

We are the largest NHS organisation in East Anglia, employing more than 12,000 staff.

We pride ourselves on supporting our staff. We offer a wide range of training and development opportunities, as well as flexible working options.

Along with supporting you to achieve your career goals, we offer a generous pension scheme, unsocial hours payments (where applicable), 27 days annual leave on commencement (pro rata), and access to a range of NHS discounts. Our Staff Health and Wellbeing programme offers a variety of services.

Our philosophy is that Time Matters to everyone. Across the Trust, we concentrate on improving the things we do and removing those which cause time delays for our staff and patients.

We are investing in our commitment to Time Matters with a partnership with leading electronic patient record (EPR) supplier Epic. This digital transformation will bring what’s widely regarded as the world’s best EPR system to ESNEFT, transforming life in the hospital for staff and patients.

If you are passionate about patient care and want to develop your skills and knowledge, then we want to hear from you.
