Job summary

Motorway, the UK's largest online car-selling platform, is expanding its tech team and seeks a Developer Experience Security Engineer to make security the easy path for engineers building, deploying and operating software on our AWS-based platform.

You will design secure-by-default platform capabilities, automate security checks, and embed secure software development practices into CI/CD, collaborating with the Security Operations Team and keeping pace with evolving security trends.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Platform/Developer Experience engineer.
• Experience with containers and serverless with infrastructure as code.
• Good knowledge of AWS cloud security best practices and tooling.
• Technical knowledge of security for networks, systems, apps, APIs, and databases.
• Familiarity with SIEM, IDS/IPS, WAF and vulnerability scanners.
• Knowledge of security standards (ISO27001, NIST CSF, AWS FSBP) is beneficial.
• Relevant security certifications (e.g. GCld, Security+, AWS/GCP Security) are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain secure-by-default platform capabilities.
• Build automated security checks, guardrails, and visibility that continuously assess risk.
• Collaborate with engineering to embed secure software development practices into CI/CD pipelines, templates, and shared tooling.
• Reduce manual work (toil) for the technology and Security Operations Team using automation.
• Ensure platform-level security telemetry, logging, and monitoring are consistent and standardised.
• Define and implement platform-wide security use cases (e.g. SIEM detections, alerts) that scale across teams.
• Work with Security Operations Team to support in security incident response.
• Stay up-to-date with the latest security trends and best practices.
• Enable secure engineering practices through documentation, examples, platform defaults, and training.
• Translate security policies into practical platform guardrails.
